About this Recipe

Grilled Cheese

  • 2 slices of Heartland bread 
  • 3-4 cheese slices of your choice
  • 6 tablespoons of butter

Tomato Soup

  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • ½ large onion
  • 1 ½ cup of water or broth
  • 1 can (28 ounces) of tomatoes – FRESH preferred 
  • Salt & Pepper

Grilled Cheese

Step 1

Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Generously butter one side of a slice of bread.

Step 2

Place bread butter-side down in the hot skillet

Step 3

Add 1 slice of cheese. Butter a second slice of bread on one side and place butter-side up on top of cheese.

Step 4

Cook until lightly browned on one side; flip over and continue cooking until the cheese is melted.

Step 5

Repeat with remaining 2 slices of bread, butter, and slice of cheese.

Tomato Soup

Step 1

 Melt the butter over medium heat in a Dutch oven or large saucepan.

Step 2

Add onion wedges, water, tomatoes with their juices, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Bring to a simmer.

Step 4

Cook, uncovered, for about 40 minutes. Stir occasionally and add additional salt as needed.
